"Grace", an early Oberammergau Ball Jointed Doll, 18 inches
Offered is “Grace”, a replica of an early Oberammergau ball-jointed doll, (the “original” ball jointed doll).
Each doll is painstakingly carved, painted and assembled in our home workshop in Florida.
Carved of solid wood, she is exactingly recreated from an antique doll including her fully articulating ball joints in the shoulder, elbows, hips and knees. Sensitively painted and finished in an antique colored wax finish, she exudes the elegance and sophistication of the early Regency period.
Her hairstyle is the fashionable "guillotine" or "Titus" hairstyle of the early 1800’s popularized after the French Revolution. The cut was also aptly named "coiffure a la victime" ("hairstyle of the victim,"). Beheading required that victims' hair be cut short, allowing easy access to the neck. Upon the end of the Reign of Terror, counterculture-ascribing survivors reclaimed the functional hair style. The rise of the guillotine cut marked an important milestone: A short hairstyle had officially achieved trend status for French women.
Grace will arrive wearing a cotton full slip with string ties and a Regency era dress of puffed sleeves and under sleeves. All dresses are made of historical printed cotton fabric replica rom the post French revolutionary period. Before receiving your doll, you will have a choice from several dresses. Included with Grace is also a printed copy of her dress pattern for those collectors who enjoy sewing for their dolls. Stay tuned as we are currently in development of many more patterns.
You may reserve your copy of Grace with a deposit of $500 and an estimated wait time will be provided at the time of reservation.
Layaways are available.
